When we choose a kinder inner mindset, regardless of our age, our IQ grows. We can remember more when inner criticism becomes kindness and self-care in advance of hosting a dinner party, for instance. Take tonight, I am serving dinner to favorite cousins from New Brunswick.

They will be here most of the day and also here for dinner. So I needed to find a kinder way (without stress) to remember all the dishes – and also to enjoy their company as we catch up on news and share stories.
My question is: How can I outsource my memory and enjoy the process of having guests here as I also prepare dinner?
Notice the emphasis on finding a kinder, more loving way to thrive and still have fun and relax. In order to enjoy more stress-free fun as a senior, we can build in a strategy to ensure we remember. In this case I placed a serving dish for every offering on my kitchen island.

On the table I placed a dish for the biscuits I baked. This dinner should be a blast, all because of a few caring gestures ahead to be kinder to me and to outsources my memory so we can all enjoy our time together over dinner.
Whenever we exchange the fear and add the love, we tend to remember more of life’s gifts that keep goodness alive. Scientifically we keep out cortisol, the brain’s toxic stress chemical, by adding in serotonin, the brain’s amazing aha chemical.
What else could we do today to ensure inner love wins back more memory? It could be adding a hook to keys to avoid losing them by hooking them to belt. It might be creating a to do list to ensure you reach key goals without overdoing on stress. Or it may simply be jotting down names before they are forgotten. In each case we have outsourced working memory in order to stress less and smile more!
Let’s start by replacing that inner critic with kindness, and see where that leads our journey for the coming day or two. Worth giving love a shot?
