Gentle Links to Human Brainpower

When Gandhi taught, In a gentle way you can shake the world, he highlighted tone missing today in communications across cultures. Do your tone skills show gentle as a strength to shake a world?

Scholar Kent Nerbum’s words, “Remember to be gentle with yourself and others,”  highlight  intelligences that cultivate tools to live calmly under pressure. Do you?

War succumbed to peace in Shakespeare’s words, His life was gentle, and the elements so mixed in him that Nature might stand upand say to all the world, this was a man!. Have you found peace where others call for war?

Gentle follows those who offer olive branches to enemies and yet as Lao Tzu taught and the human brain bears out, Be gentle and you can be bold.

I still have much to learn about the lofty rank of Gentle as its acts transform human brainpower. Take the impulsive arrest of an African American Harvard professor, and accusations that flew from both sides.

Toss gentleness into the mix and both sides would step toward healing cultural divides for the good of many beyond themselves.  Imagine the hope reported by media who follow this story, that could heal and renew our broken systems.

What do you think?

Thanks Mike, you make a great point and while I agree – I am using gentle in ways other than passive. It’s more active than war, it includes tone at the center, it is strong, not weak and it’s more effective than all the tools that violence hones – when it uses brain based tactics. That brings another blog to mind – the brain powered tools of gentle! Mike — you continue to challenge and inspire me. Thanks!

    Ellen.
I agree that gentle is a brain power that can be utilized.
Although I am always cautious when it can be claimed as a panacea. Gentle works in the right context Ghandi for example. If he attempted passive resistance with a Ghangus Khan we would have never heard of Ghandi.

Instead I suggest that we do focus on tone…The more I read your blog and focus on my tone and how I adress people and groups I see the transformation that is capable.
