Thoreau may have best described grace that triggers personal growth when he said: An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory. What actionable force creates calm beyond chaos, civility beyond conflict and inner peace far beyond persistent war and conflict?
The most untraveled pathway into peace, joy, and sheer delight, also contains comforting tracks for emotional mental and spiritual prosperity. Sure, its parallel pathways can lead us into war, conflict and chaos at times. Furthermore, alternatives to grace can seem far easier to access and less risky to awaken and navigate.
Grace on the other hand, opens to us a life-changing force, in a mind-bending journey that appears to access heaven’s doorway. It’s the force we need to glance into peacemaking and reconciliation that warms our souls and inspirits much of what we do or say to garner hope. It’s everyday energy that loves and lingers!
So what keeps us from choosing grace as the main energy force that fuels our day? Is it because we sing about it in church yet fail to see it activate? Or possibly we heard a teacher say it robs life of fun and adventure. Or do we just tell ourselves that grace is for church-goers or weird religious types?
Truth is we can pray, “Hail Mary full of GRACE” … from here to heaven, and not access or awaken the kind of spirited force of agape love in grace that creates in us calm, civility or peace. We can even grow skills as conflict-avoiders but good luck in making such a temporary approach stick when the next unexpected emotional sucker punch lands.
We all experience how the world’s grace is a temporary force! At best, love comes when we earn it, and loving-kindness is fickle at best when we don’t. In contrast divine grace is empathetic, eternal, unconditional, and already exists in our DNA.
No wonder Anne Lamott said of grace, “ I do not understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.”
My new book, Access Our Grace Mindset: Awaken Loving-kindness, Empathy, Healing and Hope, shows grace as our inner filter, and a spirited GPS of sorts, that guides us into goodness and healing.
In Star Wars, the Force is a mysterious energy that harmonizes the world and harnesses super powers to the Jedi, the Sith, and others sensitive to this spiritual energy’s harmonizing abilities, such as seeing into things and creating good from evil. What’s our force?
My new book includes 50 years of empirical research on the workings of mind, body, soul and emotions. We read there, how any lack of grace, leaves us battling injustice, struggling against unfairness, and desperately trying to navigate harsh and hopeless situations. The opposite is also true. We can access and awaken grace as a harmonizing force in fun and fantastic ways that transform us from worriers to warriors, or as Lamott would say, that propels us into a better place!
