Newly published, The Growth Mindset Workbook, received top ratings at Amazon.com and Amazon.ca since its recent release. Hopefully that means the book can help many of those who struggle with anxiety, lack of confidence, feelings of stress or discouragement when difficulties arise.

It also provides quips and tips to prompt teens to speak up and feel heard, to enjoy fun, and to use innovative approaches that will improve their situation.

On the other side of treasured hopes and dreams that energize teens, lies a dreary reality that sparked my new book in the first place. Suicide is the third leading cause of death (after accidents and homicides) for 15 to 24 year olds, according to CDC.

Perhaps you too have met young people during this pandemic with depression feelings. Or met youth who suffer anxiety, hopelessness, lack of worth, or isolation. Any or all of these can increase the risk of suicide in teens or young adults.

Dangerous triggers also include conflicts with family or friends, problems at school. Have you seen it? Especially toxic for some include feelings of fear for their future, regrets for their past, or alienation from their present.

The Teens Growth Mindset Workbook is designed to awaken curiosity in fun, supportive, and adventurous ways. Every interactive exercise is placed there to cement new desires for their lives, and to help all teens, not only survive, but also to thrive!

Add fun queries and we will help teens to recognize strengths as well as build on their weaker skills. It may be as simple as a question teens like to answer, as a way to flourish, even after a busy school day.

Perhaps ask one or two of five fun questions to engage a teen to speak out after school:

1). What made you laugh today and how so?

2).  What one thing would you change to improve your day?

3). How did you avoid being bored today?

4). What music makes you feel happiest at the moment?

5). Who is your hero at this time and why?

Many thanks to all book reviewers (below) who uncovered and enjoyed this book’s tools, tips and supports I attempt to offer all readers. Book Review from: Trina Kraus

I’m reviewing this workbook for one of my favorite College profs, Dr Ellen Weber… I bought an extra so both my daughters can work through it this summer! Topics include Empathy, Organization, Study hacks, Forgiving yourself for slip-ups, Acts of Kindness… As a teacher, I can’t tell you how many times my students have said that sometimes they just want to go back to paper and pencil. Get your preteens/teens off their devices for a little bit this summer, hand them this book and a pencil, and watch their brains flex! I can’t think of a better way for post-pandemic students to start off their next school year! Even better if it’s handed to them from mom or dad. The Teens’ Growth Mindset Workbook: Embrace Challenges, Build Resilience, and Achieve Your Goals

Let’s Step Skyrocketing Teen Suicides!

Many of us know depression while far fewer foster delight! I’ve struggled with anxiety and battled discouragement as  far back as teenage years when my mom died in her 30’s and I found myself at 14, suddenly out on the street. Alone, without a penny I struggled against everyday stressors with the mental and emotional wellbeing you’d expect to find in a bag of rocks.

On my darker days, I found myself completely lost without any expectation for happiness, or stability. On brighter days, my already dwindling hope disappeared behind fleeting clouds of fate with intermittent ferocious blows from anger and despair.

My own early struggles and later solutions is precisely why I hold out hope for teens’ wellbeing, in spite of skyrocketing suicides reported by CDC. As a teen I often felt like survival was impossible for a scrawny kid so disadvantaged. Never mind any possibility of thriving against incredible odds.

A few secondary school teachers saw something in me worth cultivating, and even though they knew nothing of my situation. And over months their support and guidance added resilience that cracked the code of desperation, and changed my life forever.

Without words to define it then, and a PhD later, I discovered how we can break the most potent patterns, that work against a mental and emotional resiliency. I learned a different approach to challenges can help us to reach our goals, fulfill our potential and thrive, in spite of setbacks.

Furthermore, without the frustration and exhaustion that characterized my upbringing, we can create calm out of chaos and help others to do the same.

In my new book, I illustrate how to build resiliency to not only survive but to thrive in a chaotic world.
