I Alone Cannot Change …

Or can I? We now know that the brain’s plasticity (or its ability to change itself) helps us become the change we seek. Take a situation where cynicism and sarcasm trumps sincerity. Ever wonder how to cultivate a healthier setting where humor leaves others laughing too. Have you seen the magic when sneers become smiles in action? When we laugh at ourselves we can help transform sarcasm into hilarity that has everybody laughing! Get downright silly, sport goofy cartoons or use witticisms that appeal to high-performance minds!

Try laughing at self and then compare how brains operate differently on humor than on our struggles through the weeds and debris of sarcasm or cynicism. Each time we laugh with others, plasticity hands us an ability to do it better.

To foster self-effacing laughter, we tend to leave behind harsh taunts and scorn that diminishes others. From the brain’s perspective, we tap into plasticity to cultivate the kind of genuine laughter that   influences  entire circles. We simply toss that one stone of self-effacing laughter to ripple waves of humor’s mojo with people who love to laugh as much as most do.

We no longer cultivate cranky complainers when we spend more time with comedians who find it easy to get others smiling too.

Years ago I discovered that to lead healthy humor with benefits for others is to laugh at ourselves.  It’s also a surefire way to avoid stress.

Because of our brain’s plasticity …

We can stoke aha moments when needed most.

Laughter lowers harmful stress – even through a fake smile

Even a smile, adds new zest for life!

Humor heals anxieties and erases fears.

Bust out a grin to boost moods!

Who’d have guessed that comedy amps up alertness!

Long term laughter improves our health and resilience! laugh-jpeg

It even helps us conquer grief or tackle trauma as a way to overcome loss. Perhaps even more importantly – a few hearty laughs on my days off prepares me for stressors that will likely pop up in the week ahead.

What’s your take on humor and plasticity’s brain benefits?
