Celebration is to my learning circles – what thinking is to brains! And it’s student-led.
Imagine your students raving about their final exam – because it magically transformed itself into a celebration! I’m talking about a Brain Based Celebration of Innovation. Imagine the anxiety of final exams converted into exhilarating adrenaline of student-led learning that engaged the entire community! No wonder students and parents and teachers love this opportunity to showcase learners’ awesome brains together. If you agree that it’s time to rethink how we know that students’ know – read on …
Students especially enjoy the opportunity to ask and be asked 2-footed questions – and they are far better than many adults at engaging others actively in responses to these brain based prompts!
In student-led celebrations students reach beyond paper and pencil tests to use facts in ways that create innovative solutions to problems that interest them.
They also enjoy guided approaches to track their progress and chart their successes.
That’s why students will often argue that all learning should be a celebration – and what a thrill they get out of helping to ensure our lessons meet the higher expectations of an active Celebration of Innovation!
